Micronesia 2009

If you are in the Seattle area this Saturday and feel like absorbing some Pacific Island culture check out the University of Washington's Micronesian Islands Clubs "Micronesia 2009: Reaching Out...Beyond the Reef." Tickets are $12 for UW students and $15 for general admission. Get your will call tickets at 5:15, but not sure where the event is being held.

I thought you might be interested in knowing that the U.S. Department of Defense is planning a major military build up on the island of Guam. They plan to dredge up coral reefs and dextroy a large mangrove area to expand a harbor for a nuclear powered aircraft carrier that will only be here up to 63 days a year. This will threaten Guam's hawksbill turtles, green sea turtles, and spinner dolphins, as well as countless other reef fish.
